Description

Our Traditional Climbing Basics Course is designed to introduce climbers to the fundamentals of trad climbing, focusing on safe and efficient gear placement and anchor construction. Participants will learn how to correctly place nuts and camming devices in cracks and fissures, understanding the optimal direction of pull to ensure secure protection. The course emphasizes minimizing rope drag through strategic gear placement and rope management techniques.

Climbers will also be instructed in building solid climbing anchors using both passive gear, like nuts and hexes, and active gear, such as cams. Instruction covers the principles of equalizing anchor points, redundancy, and load distribution to create reliable, safe anchors for belaying and rappelling.

Led by experienced, certified guides, this hands-on course provides ample opportunity to practice these skills on natural rock formations, reinforcing proper technique and decision-making. Safety is paramount, with thorough training in risk assessment, gear inspection, and emergency response procedures.

Ideal for those aiming to progress beyond sport climbing or bouldering, this course equips participants with the essential knowledge and confidence to lead traditional climbs and build secure protection on real rock. By the course conclusion, climbers will be prepared to confidently place gear and construct anchors in a variety of traditional climbing scenarios.
